Poetic Writing. The Seminar. In the early 90‘s Giovanna Salabè developed in the area of Creative Writing the two seminars Poetry and Senses and Poetry and Rituals. About working with Senses: through hearing, feeling, smelling, tasting and only lastly seeing – the favorite sense of our times – the participants are invited to reactivate channels which enable them to a more distinguished perception of the outer world. Working with Rituals, which are inspired by the spirituality of the Hopi-Indians of North-America, means that an inverse experience takes place. The ritual addresses an aspect of our own personality which is brought outside by being put into words. These two, Senses and Rituals, are the starting point in Salabès activity for the composition of poetic texts.
The newly developed seminar Poetic Writing 2025 reunites the work on Senses and Rituals putting a particular accent on HEARING. The sense of hearing is the first of our senses being completely developed when we are still in the mother‘ s womb. Before the human being can see, smell, taste or even touch, it perceives its fellow human beings and the surroundings with the ears. According to Rudolf Steiner the sense of hearing is truly our deepest sense. With our eyes we just “touch“ the surfaces of the tangible things. When, on the contrary, we make an object resonate (even only by knocking on a wooden table), the object vibrates through all its fibers in its wholeness, from the inside to the outside. Not without reason in the Upanishad from ancient India it says Nada Brahma: The World is Sound.
However we live in an era in which seeing is given an overestimated relevance. Whereas we overhear the Hearing. We even restricted the nights might, which generally sharpens all our senses, in particular the Hearing, by heavily illuminating streets and cities.
